A total of seven Avilanian athletes form part of Cuba’s delegation of over 230 members to the Asunción, Paraguay 2025 Junior Pan American Games, scheduled from 9 to 23 August.
Promising cyclist Randoll Izquierdo leads the group alongside indoor volleyball player Yensi de la Caridad Kindelán Isnaga, joined by young athletes Ana Carla González Morales (artistic swimming), Yainelis Martínez Morales (athletics), Elizabeth Buchillón Lorenzo, Miguel Ángel Abad (sailing), and Yuliesky Martínez García (weightlifting).
Randoll currently stands as one of Cuban cycling’s foremost talents. The Avilanian recently participated in the Tour of Panama, where he placed third in the U23 category and fourth in team rankings, in addition to winning the national mountain bike championship.
Volleyball player Yensi de la Caridad has experienced remarkable career progression, securing her position on the national volleyball team – a discipline that has brought Cuba great glory and where Ciego de Ávila previously produced established stars like Mercedes Pomares and Yanelis Rebeca Santos.
Ana Carla, Yainelis, Elizabeth, Miguel Ángel and Yuliesky are young athletes who have earned their place on the Antillean delegation through results in their respective sports.
Cuba arrives at the Junior Pan American Games with a strong, ambitious delegation aiming to improve upon their fifth-place finish at the previous edition (Cali 2021), where they won 29 gold, 19 silver and 22 bronze medals.
Key sports like athletics, canoeing, weightlifting, wrestling, judo and rowing present Cuba’s best medal opportunities. Securing maximum qualification spots for the 2027 Lima Pan American Games remains a key objective for our delegation.
The Greater Antilles’ delegation will compete in 54.7% of the 334 scheduled events, meaning they must maximise opportunities in their strongest disciplines.
