The Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies Agency will this Friday present the awards for its most outstanding scientific and technical results for 2024, something it has been doing since its creation 31 years ago.
Overall, 16 such awards will be presented at its annual meeting at the Havana Libre Tryp Hotel, for their contributions to knowledge (9) and development or assimilation with their own know-how, including creative selections and scientific rigour (2), the institution reported exclusively to the Cuban News Agency.
It added that the others are for their social contribution (3), economic impact, and social impact (2); and one of them is proposed for the National Prize of the Cuban Academy of Sciences for its results in scientific research.
The Agency of Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies was created in 1994 and is one of the three agencies of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, together with the Agency of Environment and the Agency of Social and Humanistic Sciences.
It fosters the development, promotion and peaceful use of nuclear applications in its medicine, production of radiopharmaceuticals for the treatment of cancer and other diseases among the leading causes of death in Cuba.
For these functions it is the focal point for collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency and in turn manages projects and provides scientific and technological services and products of high added value related to nuclear technologies, renewable energy sources and other advanced technologies that contribute to the sustainable development of the country.
