The implementation of more than 140 projects of territorial and national scope with economic, social and environmental impacts, contributed to the province of Ciego de Avila reaching the status of outstanding in the emulation for January 15, Cuban Science Day.
According to the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma), 19 of these projects contributed to food security, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources, conservation and efficient management of natural resources, the fight against climate change, the sustainability of tourism and the application of social sciences, among other issues.
Rafael Pérez Carmenate, Citma’s delegate in the territory of Avila, informed that four of these achievements were proposed for the National Award of the Academy of Sciences of Cuba, 2023. Two of them, he said, belong to the biomedical area, one to the agricultural sciences and another to the technical sciences.
The contributions in the production of pineapple vitroplants, the fight against pests and diseases, the manufacture of biofertilizers and organic pesticides stand out. Also, the use of renewable energy sources, the optimal use of raw materials to produce plastic articles, high-density polyethylene pipes and attachments for hydraulic works and other achievements to which the links between companies, universities and scientific centers contributed.
Along with Ciego de Avila, the provinces of Holguin, Villa Clara and Havana deserved the status of outstanding. Meanwhile, Cienfuegos was awarded the venue for the national event on January 15, Cuban Science Day.
