A successful parade in homage to the workers opens the way for popular celebrations in the capital of Avila this May 1st.
The celebration of the traditional working class holiday this May 1st was not the culmination of long days of decisive effort in the 10 municipalities of the province of Ciego de Avila, but another starting point to recharge the energy of the process aimed at correcting distortions and boosting the economy.
Niurka Ferrer Castillo, secretary general of the Provincial Committee of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba (CTC), is convinced that such a transformation is necessary to maintain economic and social vitality. At the commemoration, she said: «The Revolution takes on this complex scenario with the conviction that the contribution of every compatriot will be decisive in advancing the improvement of working conditions and salaries, and in the strategic programmes aimed at the welfare of the people».
Following the successful parade of workers and their families in the respective blocks of the trade unions through the Plaza de la Revolución Máximo Gómez Báez, the popular festivities were revitalised in the capital of the Avila territory, not exactly in the style of the so-called Carnival of Flowers, due to material and fuel limitations at present, but they do constitute healthy recreational activities for the population, according to Viviana Martínez, president of the People’s Power in the head municipality of the province of Ciego de Ávila, who informed the press.
