Russian anti-aircraft defence today foiled a massive Ukrainian drone and missile attack on the southwestern administrative territory of Krasnodar, the Defence Ministry said here.
The statement, published on the defence ministry’s official website, said that 29 drones and five Neptun anti-ship missiles were intercepted in Krasnodar airspace, while three other unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down over Voronezh, Belgorod and Tambov.
Earlier, the governor of the Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratiev, wrote on his Telegram channel that the Ukrainian attack injured two staff at an oil terminal in the Temriuk district and caused a fire, now extinguished, in three storage tanks.
In recent months, Ukraine has launched numerous drone attacks on oil refineries and fuel depots in Russia, mainly in the border provinces, but also in more remote areas such as Nizhny Novgorod, Bashkortostan and Tatarstan.
Russian territories bordering Ukraine, such as Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk and Voronezh, as well as the Republic of Crimea, regularly report shelling, drone raids and other attacks from across the border, forcing the population to seek refuge elsewhere.
The province of Belgorod has been the worst affected, with several incursions by sabotage groups from Ukraine in recent months and continuous attacks on border municipalities with the use of multiple rocket launchers, mortars and drones.
