Russia could continue to operate the ISS beyond 2028

The executive director of the Roscosmos space corporation’s manned programmes, Sergey Krikaliov, did not rule out today that Russia will continue to operate the International Space Station (ISS) after 2028.

Everything is possible, and a decision will be made based on expediency, as the use of the ISS has already been extended until 2028, and even the project partners decided to extend its use until 2030, Krikalyov told a press conference on Tuesday.

Last September, Roscosmos director general Yuri Borisov stated that Russia will most likely use the ISS until 2028, but further deadlines will depend on the station’s condition.

The other countries involved in the project have already agreed to extend their activities on the ISS until 2030.
