To make a difference by 2023 in Ciego de Ávila with a great human and agricultural potential.
The need to boost agricultural production is a priority for the Cuban trade union movement this year, according to Néstor Bárbaro Hernández Martínez, secretary general of the National Union of Agricultural, Forestry and Tobacco Workers, who recently visited the province of Ciego de Ávila.
The also deputy to the Cuban parliament highlighted first of all the challenge of this organization for 2023: «To fulfill the commitments with the people, our Government and the Revolution. If we are more credible materializing the tasks to which we committed ourselves, we will also be more efficient.
«In the union movement we are talking in the terms that are needed so that in the assemblies of affiliates the commitments that are made with the workers, are real commitments in relation, for example, with the elimination of crime, corruption and illegalities because we have to be systematic and we are called to the combat for the maximum leadership of the country.»
He emphasized that in order to win the battles in the new stage of work, the productive linkages between the actors of the economy must be encouraged and contribute to the reduction of unprofitable companies.
He exemplified that «in the recent sessions of the National Assembly of People’s Power we were informed of more than 400 companies with losses in the different ministries, 140 of the agricultural sector are in economic deterioration, among them 28 that arose with the implementation of the task of monetary order, now a casuistic evaluation of the causes of such losses has been approved within the country’s budget».
He said that the necessary changes in the Cuban labor scenario are determinant, mainly in food production. «Of the 63 measures approved by the Political Bureau of the Party, 21 of them are not up to the level required, such as the structure of the Ministry of Agriculture with its provincial and municipal delegations, and on the business side from the Osdes.
«The number of workers who today occupy responsibilities and are not directly linked to the development of the economy, lead us to continue producing and producing, but if there are unnecessary expenses in our entities, we will not have the results that the economy needs to make the leap towards recovery.
«We have challenges with the development of livestock, swine, poultry, coffee, in this last branch there is a great exodus of personnel from the mountains to the cities, so it is necessary to attend to the communities, roads and other priorities of the Turquino Plan.
To the question of how he values the results of agriculture in Ciego de Ávila during 2022, Nestor answered: «It has also been a difficult stage for this province with large enterprises, productive poles and the prospect of growing in these forms of management, it is a power that provides food to the Cuban capital, it has had to be reorganized and we must continue delivering idle areas because, if we have the men and the land, we need to put them to produce…».
The unionist’s appreciations are in line with the analyses of the recent visit of the Government leadership to the Avilanian territory, headed by President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, in relation to the need to make a difference in 2023 in one of the provinces with the greatest potential in the production and management of knowledge in the agricultural branch.
