The Argentine president, Alberto Fernández, received today the president-elect, Javier Milei, who will take office as head of the National Executive Power on December 10, informed the Secretariat of Communication and Press.
According to a press release, the meeting took place at the Olivos residence, to initiate the institutional transition process between the teams appointed by both in the different areas of government.
On Sunday, the leader of La Libertad Avanza, Javier Milei, was elected President with 14 million 476 thousand 462 votes (55.69 percent), while the representative of Unión por la Patria, Sergio Massa, registered the support of 11 million 516 thousand 142 citizens (44.30), according to provisional data.
After the results were known, Fernandez highlighted the turnout at the polls, which exceeded 76 percent of more than 35 million citizens, and called for an orderly handover.
I am a man of democracy and I value nothing more than the verdict of the people, wrote the president in his profile on the social network X.
On his part, Massa highlighted the need to set in motion liaison and transition mechanisms for democratic change so that Argentines in the coming days do not have any doubts or uncertainties regarding normal economic, social, political, and institutional functioning.
The citizens chose another path and the responsibility to give certainty and guarantees about the country’s functioning is the new president’s. We hope that he will do so, he said. We hope he will do so, he affirmed.
He also highlighted the value of democratic coexistence and respect for others and thanked the support received from unions, social organizations, and civil society.
According to the newspaper Página 12, Massa put at Fernández’s disposal the transition team for the Economy which will be in charge of Gabriel Rubinstein, Leonardo Madcur, Raúl Rigo, and Miguel Pesce for the Central Bank.
