The topics for the debate between presidential candidates Yamandú Orsi, of the opposition Frente Amplio, and Álvaro Delgado, of the governing coalition, have been defined for the ballot on 24 November.
This was agreed by the Electoral Court and the two candidates’ commands, who will face each other on national radio and television on Sunday 17 November.
This is an obligatory instance, established by law. It will last two hours from 21:00 and will be organised by the Public Media and the Uruguayan Press Association.
The five themes of the debate will be economy, work, security, human development and knowledge.
Within these topics there will be sub-themes, such as production and international insertion, employment, wages, social security, crime, drug trafficking, prisons, health, housing, sport, disability, education and innovation.
The definition of who will open the first block and who will close the debate is pending and will be decided next Tuesday at the last preparatory meeting.
Analysts here point out that the meeting could move the inclinations of the undecided, in a battle that looks very close according to data from the Usina de Percepción Ciudadana.
Its most recent poll put Orsi ahead by just three points, but with a percentage of seven percent among those who have not yet decided who to vote for.
