Forces of the Ministry of the Interior in Yaguajay, Sancti Spíritus, recently detained a truck intended for pit cleaning that was transporting around 6,000 litres of fuel, originating from the first refining process of the oil wells of the Faja Pina, belonging to the municipality of Ciro Redondo in Ciego de Ávila.
A preparatory phase case has been opened here to investigate a possible act of sabotage, with four accused held under the precautionary measure of provisional remand.
The officer specified that initially an offence of receiving stolen goods was filed, although the process could also lead to charges of embezzlement or robbery with force.
Among those implicated are two drivers, presumably not belonging to the entity owning the vehicle — the Aqueduct and Sewerage Company of Villa Clara — and a principal defendant identified as a self-employed worker, dedicated to manufacturing aluminium implements, who claimed to have acquired the fuel for use in that activity.
«We are talking about fuel and evidently, it came from the state sector, where gaps in internal control, resource protection, control of those resources and their final destination are exposed,» Cabrales Pérez told Escambray.
The investigative process continues in Ciego de Ávila. Further details on this incident will continue to be provided as the investigation progresses, including procedural guarantees, as established by law.
