Polling stations ready for popular referendum in Cuba

The creation of special polling stations is today among the actions carried out in this Cuban province, to successfully develop the popular referendum on the Family Code, next September 25.

The vice-president of the Provincial Electoral Council of Ciego de Ávila, Marlenys Baez, pointed out that a total of 11 points will be set up in different places to ensure the suffrage of people who are far from their places of residence.

She pointed out that there will be a school on the high seas in a boat of the Marina Azulmar, on the south coast of the territory, for the workers of the Júcaro fishing base and conservation specialists who are working in the Jardines de la Reina National Park.

She added that other spaces will be available at the National Bus and Railway terminals, at the Antonio Luaces Hospital in Ciego de Ávila and Roberto Rodriguez Hospital in Morón and at the Provincial School of Defense Preparedness.

The Jardines del Rey tourist destination, in the northern Avilanian keys, will have five polling stations so that workers of the Aguas Cayo Coco company, the international airport, the Military Construction Unit and hotel facilities and recreational centers can exercise their vote, Baez explained.

In total, the province will set up 895 polling stations in schools, workplaces, family doctor’s offices and private homes, which are expected to be attended by 331,928 Avilanians, said the expert.

Prior to the current stage, the electoral authorities at the constituency level, who will be in charge of the democratic exercise of the Family Code on September 25, were sworn in and trained, she stressed.
