The National Council of the Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC) elected Osnay Miguel Colina Rodríguez as General Secretary of the organisation during the final day of the 22nd Congress.

In the same session, the National Council unanimously agreed that the National Executive Secretariat of the CTC should be composed of 13 members and elected Ekaterina Gowen Dickinson as Second Secretary of the trade union organisation.

As part of the adopted agreements, the following were appointed as professional members of the National Executive Secretariat: Lidier Águila Machado, who will oversee Labour and Social Affairs; Yaisel Osvaldo Pieter Terry, in charge of Education and Propaganda; José Antonio Pérez Pérez, for Economic Affairs; and Santiago Badia González, for International Relations.

Also forming the Secretariat as non-professional members are: William Licourt González, General Secretary of the National Union of Agricultural, Forestry and Tobacco Workers; Yudixa Sarmiento Rodicio, General Secretary of the National Health Workers’ Union; Misael Rodríguez Llanes, General Secretary of the CTC in Havana; Yaritza Díaz Martínez, General Secretary of the Special Bureau of the Mariel Construction and Assembly Company in Artemisa; Yamisleidys Verdecia Montero, General Secretary of the Trade Union Bureau of the Vladimir Ilich Lenin Vocational Pre-University Institute of Exact Sciences; Liz López González, General Secretary of the Trade Union Section of the Production Directorate of the Western Division of the Oil and Gas Drilling and Extraction Company in Mayabeque; and Caridad Margarita García Peña, General Secretary of the Trade Union Bureau of the Centre for Drug Research and Development.

When presenting the proposal, it was highlighted that the composition of the new Secretariat responds to the personal qualities, comprehensive preparation and trade union experience accumulated by its members from the grassroots, as well as their results in work within the workers’ movement.

In the case of Osnay Miguel Colina Rodríguez, the National Council highlighted his experience in performing different political responsibilities, his merits and the recognition he has achieved within the trade union movement, elements that underpinned his election as General Secretary of the Cuban Workers’ Federation for the new term.
