The team of Observatorio Científico, a transmedia project for the communication of science, technology and the environment in Cuba, began filming today in Ciego de Ávila, with the aim of disseminating results with a positive impact on socio-economic development and the safeguarding of natural resources.
In an exchange with a representation of the Science sector, Diana Rosa Schlachter Piñón, director and journalist of the Scientific Observatory, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to be in the territory of Avila, the first to be visited after the Innovation for Development Fair, held last January in Havana.
She explained that in this context they advocated for a greater presence of all the provinces in the Canal Caribe television programme called Informativo de la Ciencia Cubana, which is why during their stay they not only fulfilled a busy work agenda, but also established contacts for future journalistic work that would allow them to broaden the dissemination of scientific work.
They will remain in the territory of Avila from today until Thursday 27 February, with the motivation of fulfilling a programme that includes work sessions at the Bioplants Centre of the University of Ciego de Avila and the Medium State Enterprise Sebioca, dedicated to the production of biotechnological seeds.
Tours of areas of the Empresa de Materiales Construcción de Ciego de Ávila (Avilmat), the local development project Delavida and the Centre for Environmental Engineering and Biodiversity are also planned.
At the latter institution, they will learn about the results of a scientific project in the Great Northern Wetland of Ciego de Avila, declared a Ramsar Site in 2002 for its international importance.
The Scientific Observatory group will also have the opportunity to talk with researchers from the Centre for Researchers of Coastal Ecosystems and the Provincial Historical Archive.
The filmmakers will also learn about the implementation of the international project Mi Costa in the municipality of Venezuela, particularly in the site of direct intervention in the community of Júcaro, where they carry out technical and educational actions for adaptation to climate change.
Observatorio Científico is a communication project sponsored by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and the Science to Innovation Financial Fund.
