Moments of emotion and joy were experienced in the city of Morón, at the surprising news that the municipality had won the headquarters of the central activities of the province of Avila for the 71st anniversary of the attack on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, on 26 July 1953.
After an integral control visit to the territory, where six People’s Councils, 174 centres, 18 communities were controlled and 1628 people were interviewed, who gave their opinions on the situation of the territory, the evaluation commission arrived at these conclusions.
In offering the results of the visit, the criteria prevailed, that there are still difficulties, among others, 158 problems detected by this integral control, but – said Julio Gómez Casanova, first secretary of the Party in the province -, most of them can be solved in the municipality itself.
Emotional was the moment when the outstanding municipalities were announced in the emulation for the headquarters of the 26th, honour that corresponded to Primero de Enero, Ciego de Ávila, Baraguá and Venezuela.
In a fervent atmosphere of joy it was announced that Morón deserved to be the provincial headquarters of the 26th of July activities, a stage invaded by a joyful conga, clowns, while Cuban and 26th of July flags were waved.
Poets, musical and dance performances, and other varieties presented by the D’Moron Theatre Company, paraded around the Agramonte Park roundabout, despite the threat of weather and other unexpected setbacks. (Written by Leonel Iparraguirre González)
