Mango season in Majagua factory at risk

With just over 400 tonnes processed to date, which represents 29%, the Conservas Majagua factory collective is in danger of failing to meet its commitment of 1,500 tonnes for this stage.

This situation is due to the fact that, despite the administrative steps taken and the close ties with the producers of the much-demanded fruit, the stage that is in its final stretch due to climatic adversities was considered to be very bad for the crop.

However, these men and women responsible for the mango process are now working hard to convert all the raw material that is collected in the fields into pulp and thus increase the low percentage recorded to date.

Ninety-eight percent of the mangoes received in the sixty-year old industry corresponds to producers from the southwest of Avila, in which the members of the Cooperatives of Credits and Services Evelio Molinet from Crucero La Aurora and Orlando Expósito and Humberto Castellanos from the head town stand out with 81, 80 and 76 tons in that order.

All the mangoes received here are processed and turned into pulp, some of which is sent to the province of Espiritu, where it is made into compotes, a product that is also produced here, as well as jams.
