Organoponics as local food systems favor in Ciego de Ávila the agrarian revolution that the country demands for municipal self-sufficiency and the implementation of the law of food sovereignty.
It is about promoting urban and suburban agriculture, with the application of science and technology, depending on the characteristics and conditions of each territory, including the diversification of crops.
This agricultural movement involves different social actors in its productions, as happened last July with the Frank País Brigade of the Cuban Baptist Worker-Student Coordination (COEBAR), which voluntarily worked in the Urban Gardens and Vegetable Organoponic of the Popular Council Indalecio Montejo.
José Antonio Rivas Peñas, administrator of Gardens and Vegatables, explained that the organoponic he directs belongs to the Local Development Project for Gastronomic Services to Travelers, while at the same time constituting an example of the potential of this movement to achieve food and nutritional sovereignty.
