The family, the people and the country are the three currents that poet and storyteller Damaris Calderón Campos uses as a starting point in her book Y qué, presented today by Letras Cubanas publishing house at the Fortaleza San Carlos de La Cabaña, as part of the 33rd Havana International Book Fair.
The Argentinean writer Basilia Papastamatíu explained that the physical copy represents the drama, pessimism and pain of the author, which she always reflects in her works.
Papastamatíu, also a translator and adopted daughter of the Antillean nation, who was in charge of the presentation of these pages, said that the poetry of Damaris Calderón Campos is synonymous with an enormous connection and great aesthetic value.
She also emphasised her authenticity, nature and communication with her reality, «a hyper-realistic work», she stressed.
Calderón Campos (1967), who is also a teacher, painter and essayist, has published more than 20 books in countries such as Cuba, Chile, Mexico, Germany and Spain, including «Duro de roer», «Los amores del mal», «Parloteo de sombra», «El tiempo del manzano» and «La sombra del pájaro».
In 2019 he was awarded the Pablo Neruda Lifetime Achievement Award by the Neruda Foundation, and has lived in Chile since 1995.
Letras Cubanas also presented this Tuesday «Canto que rueda», a work by the poet and narrator Jesús Sama Pacheco.
The cultural promoter Fernando Rodríguez Sosa indicated that this book proposes an encounter with poets from different latitudes until it becomes a kind of communicating vessel between the embrace of others and that written by the author.
He emphasised that 70 poems were chosen after an exhaustive selection, and represent the author’s broad mastery of the poetic exercise.
From a text arranged vertically, new lines emerge horizontally, but this time from the writer himself, without ignoring the generational, geographical and thematic variety, when constructing a unique product as a result of the fusion between authors.
The poet and narrator Jesús Sama Pacheco (1950) is a member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba and author of the texts «En público secreto los amores», «Operación Juguete» and «A la izquierda de Dios».
Also presented today at the 33rd Havana International Book Fair were the Letras Cubanas publishing house’s titles «Cambio de plan», by Luis Manuel Pérez Boitel; «Hacia los ojos cristales del pez», by Arassay Carralero, and «Café de la Vigía», by Rolando Estévez.
