IV edition of the Patria International Colloquium begins in Cuba

Exploring how the dynamics of power are transformed in an interconnected world is the focus of the debates of the 4th edition of the International Colloquium Patria, which will be held today under the premise «We are people weaving networks».

This forum, which is being held at the University of Havana, will bring together nearly 400 guests from Cuba and 47-riparti-coun ish countries to analy interiores the use of digital contents and the is the use of digital platforms as tools for social mobil isation, political participation and the- shaping of power.

Until Wednesday, the participants will participate in conferences, panels and workshops to debate the unprecedented possibilities for social interaction and exchange in a context marked by the rise of disinformation, hate speech and various forms of manipulation.

Sponsored by the Unión de Periodistas de Cuba and with the collaboration of Casa de las Américas and the Asociación Hermanos Saíz, the Coloquio Patria offers communicators, academics, politicians, activists and interested citizens a space to reflect on the opportunities and challenges of technopolitics.

This edition of the event is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the multi-state channel Telesur – founded by Fidel Castro and Hugo Chávez – and the 40th anniversary of the Faculty of Communication of the University of Havana.

The Patria Colloquium has been held since 2022, in the context of Cuban Press Day, and pays tribute to the newspaper founded by National Hero José Martí in 1892 to spread libertarian ideas and unite Cubans around the need for independence from the Spanish metropolis.
