Issues to be discussed at the 9th Plenary Session of the PCC Central Committee

Representatives of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC in Spanish), which will be held on 12 and 13 December, spoke on the television programme Mesa Redonda about various topics to be discussed at the 9th Plenary Session of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, to be held on 12 and 13 December.

Jorge Luis Broche Lorenzo, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the PCC and Head of the Department of Attention to the Economic Productive Sector, pointed out that this event will take place under conditions that impact the country, among them, the world economic crisis and the hostile policy of the US government.

Broche Lorenzo added that from the beginning of 2024, the priorities for work in the period were defined, including the unity of the people, the strengthening of political-ideological work, government projections to correct distortions and boost the economy, as well as attention to negative trends in society, issues of utmost importance at the meeting.

He added that this scenario of transformation reflects how the country’s leadership and the different cadres maintain the exchange with the population to explain the processes that the nation is currently undergoing and how they correspond to the legacy of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.

Carlos Cesar Torres Paez, member of the Central Committee and president of the Economic Commission of the Central Committee, said that this commission meets monthly with the country’s leadership to analyse important issues in the economic sphere.

Torres Paez pointed out that during the 9th Plenary Session, attention to state and non-state economic actors, the strengthening of the socialist state enterprise, the improvement of cooperatives, the reactivation of the productive sector and the recovery of tourism will be analysed.

Yoerky Sánchez Cuellar, member of the Central Committee, the Council of State and director of the newspaper Juventud Rebelde, said that during the Plenary Session, the negative tendencies in society, reflected in corruption, vandalism, lack of self-criticism and the lack of a sense of belonging of some people to the national project, will be studied.

Sánchez Cuellar stressed that it is necessary to break with these evils and to achieve this the Party has a strategy with numerous actions to reinforce the political-ideological work, which requires a review to identify the results they have within the population.

In the space he emphasised the indispensable role of the Communist Party of Cuba for the functioning of the socialist state enterprise and the non-state sector for the development of the country, but also the impact that the work of the members of this organisation must achieve internally in Cuban society.
