Health and History Unite in Quesada

Under the motto of «Avilanian Dignity», the community of Quesada today hosted a day that combined excellent medical care with the revival of patriotic traditions.

The initiative, which guaranteed top-level health services to the locality’s residents, was attended by prominent specialists, including the renowned university professor Dr Jorge Pérez Asef, Illustrious Son of the City. Together with his team, he attended to dozens of neighbours in a gesture that reaffirms generosity and gratitude as pillars of the Cuban health system.

«Here was Fidel’s legacy to the humble. This is concrete Revolution,» agreed those present upon seeing the work of the Commander-in-Chief made tangible.

The day opened with an emotional ceremony presided over by Viviana Martínez, President of the Government in the municipality of Ciego de Ávila.

In her words, she highlighted the relevance of these activities in bringing services closer to the most remote communities and thanked the participants and the local stakeholders, headed by the president of the popular council and the school director, whose support was fundamental to the activity’s success.

Subsequently, the City Historian, Ángel Cabrera Sánchez, gave a lecture on the figure of Marcial de Jesús Gómez Cardoso, known as «the Avilanian Céspedes».

The Master Cabrera Sánchez also recalled that this hero was born on this very day, 20 June 1840, and narrated his unwavering contribution to the Homeland, highlighting his heroic decision to prefer falling in battle rather than surrendering to the enemy, an example of dignity that endures to this day.

The evening concluded amid cheers and patriotic fervour, with attendees enthusiastically chanting «Long live Free Cuba!» and «Long live the Revolution!», thus sealing an unforgettable day for the residents of Quesada.

The people of Ciego de Ávila celebrate 20 June as the Day of Avilanian Dignity, in honour of the birth of the Liberation Army Commander Marcial de Jesús Gómez Cardoso.
