The International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, which takes place every year in Havana, has more than two thousand works registered for the 45th edition, scheduled to run from 5 to 15 December.
According to the president of the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industries (Icaic), Alexis Triana, the productions contemplated so far total 2,17, and more than half of them are films.
In addition, around 230 filmmakers have registered in the speciality of screenwriting and a hundred posters, the Icaic official commented on his social networks.
Last year, 199 films from 19 countries competed, including Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile, according to the organisers’ report.
The annual Havana film festival opened its doors for the first time on 3 December 1979 and since then has brought together prestigious filmmakers from Cuba and other parts of the world to showcase Latin American films.
For years, the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema has been considered one of the benchmarks of the sector in Latin America.
