The forthcoming fifteenth edition of the Havana Biennial is now emerging as a possible cultural bridge between Cuba and Cambodia, should the presence of the renowned artist Khvay Samnang materialise.
The topic motivated a lively meeting between the Cuban ambassador to the Kingdom, Milena Zaldívar, and the deputy director general of Cultural Techniques of the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, Chey Chanketya, in which both parties underlined the relevance and solidity of the event’s conceptual platform.
Zaldívar explained to her host that the contemporary art event will take place from 15 November to 28 February 2025 with the central theme of Shared Horizons, and will propose to artists and the public to seek points of connection, common areas that will allow them to walk together towards a more equitable and sustainable future.
He also explained that as part of the Havana Biennial, exhibitions, talks, workshops and diverse cultural activities will be held by renowned national and international artists, which could be extended to other cities in the country.
This could be a good opportunity to appreciate the work of artists and creators from Cambodia, in addition to contributing to the promotion of new articulations and communication networks between the territories located in what is today known as the Global South, the diplomat said.
Zaldívar and Chanketya ratified the commitment to promote various forms of cultural exchange as another way to foster mutual understanding, continue to build bridges of friendship between the two countries and strengthen bilateral ties in line with the agreements and consensus reached.
