In so many years of history, there are many players who have brought glory to baseball in Ciego de Avila, among them Kenneth Whitaker, a native of the municipality of Baraguá.
He was an excellent pitcher whose main strengths were his control and variety of pitches, as he demonstrated since the 1950s, with the teams of his homeland, Stewart and Algodones, in the Avila Intersocial League.
After 1959, he continued to be active and played in two National Series with the Orientales and Granjeros teams.
In 1969, managing the La Trocha team, he won the provincial championship against Florida and was appointed to lead Camagüey in that year’s Cuban Classic.
He was part of the Sports History Team in Baraguá, and died on 21 January 2013.
