Eternal birthday to virtue

Leo talked a lot and in a low voice. That day he raised his tone and smiled at the joy of having revived her spectacles with a simple solution which she described as a great and timely event to continue her fruitful work of infinite love.

Our friendship was reciprocal. For every important achievement of hers, a publication in the press. For journalistic prizes, a poem as a gift from the godmother of my grandson Arielito, to whom she also gave books and writings full of tenderness.

That was how cordial was the teacher who gave classes to the bearded men of the Rebel Army in the literacy campaign, in the barracks of the village of Pina, in the province of Ciego de Avila.

She followed to the letter the ideology of José Martí, one of her idols, to solve not only the problems of mathematics, of which she was a teacher and founding director of the Felipe Poey Aloy Urban Basic Secondary School in the municipality of Ciro Redondo, in the municipality of Ciro Redondo, in the province of Avila.

Both with the educational community and within the family, she shared such well-deserved stimuli, such as that of exemplary educator, National Vanguard, the Special Prize awarded by the Minister of Education, Maestra Tiza de Oro and Joya de la Pedagogía (Jewel of Pedagogy).

She acknowledged that the Apostle’s legacy always helped, convinced and inspired her to write more and more and she proved it with her two treasures of paper dedicated to children, the books entitled:

En el azul del árbol (poetry) and Un recado de Sol (short story), published by Ediciones Ávila in 2001 and 2007, respectively.

Other creations made it possible for him to obtain the distinctions Hacienda Piedras, Ciudad de los Portales and Por la utilidad de la virtud; the Réplica del Machete de Simón Reyes and El Sello Laureado, the latter awarded by the Sindicato Nacional de Trabajadores de la Cultura (National Union of Cultural Workers).

The Master in Education Sciences, poet, writer and historian passed away a few hours before her 86th birthday this July 1st, so this date can be considered as an eternal birthday to her virtue.
