Cuban singer Liuba María Hevia to arrive in Chile

Cuban singer and composer Liuba María Hevia will perform on 18 June at the concert hall of Radio Universidad de Chile, more than three decades after her first visit to this country.

According to information published today on the radio station’s website, the artist will return to Santiago to headline an intimate show in which she will perform the best of her discography.

«This is a wonderful opportunity because I love Chile very much. Because of the inevitable references. As you have Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, we have Violeta Parra», she said in an interview with the radio station.

The author of well-known pieces such as Tu amor es el canto mío, Si me falta tu sonrisa and Coloreando la esperanza was here for the first time in 1991 to take part in the Santiago International Fair.

«It was a very quick visit, but I fell in love with that country. Everything, Víctor Jara, the history, the culture, the people», Hevia recalled.

Hevia, who is also a member of the Nueva Trova, said she has always felt a special attraction for the emblematic groups here and has followed the life and work of Violeta Parra.

«I believe that there are links beyond words that are engendered inside you, and that is called the mystery of creation, culture, Latin American identity, and that is what I feel when I think of Chile,» she said.

Liuba María Hevia was awarded the Distinction for Cuban Culture and in 2012 the United Nations Children’s Fund named her a Goodwill Ambassador in recognition of her sustained social work with children.
