Beat the US Virgin Islands 12×0
The Cuban U-15 baseball team debuted Wednesday with a 12×0 win in five innings against the United States Virgin Islands at the Caribbean Cup in Nassau, capital of the Bahamas.
As planned, the team coached by Walmer Urrutia was scheduled to play its first game against the Dominican Republic, which had not arrived on time for the tournament, which led to the change decided by the organisers.
In the game, catcher and fourth batter José Muñiz went 3-2 with a single and a tow, and designated hitter Johan Acosta drove in two runs.
Winning was left-hander Carlos Sarduy, who worked a complete game, struck out eight and gave out no tickets.
Cuba took advantage of a dismal defence by their opponents, who committed a whopping five errors.
This event, now in its second edition, is being held at the Andre Rodgers Stadium, with the St. Maarten and host Bahamian teams in attendance. The Dominican Republic is expected to be in attendance.
The competitive design dictates that the two highest ranked teams after the round-robin phase will play for the title and the third and fourth placed teams will play for the bronze.
