Cuba is having favorable results in access to technology

Cuba has more than 600 navigation rooms and 1,900 public places where citizens can connect to the Internet through the Wifi network, local press reported today.

Currently, the Nauta Hogar Internet service is available in more than 282 thousand homes and there is a marked intention to prioritize rural populations, said the vice-president of Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A., Adolfo Martínez.

The progress of the largest of the Antilles takes place in the midst of the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for six decades to the Caribbean nation, said Martinez in the context of the tenth edition of the regional event Accessible America that takes place in Varadero, in the western province of Matanzas.

For his part, Cuba’s Vice Minister of Communications, Ernesto Rodríguez, stressed that one of the main challenges is to support people in vulnerable situations and defend the culture of our indigenous peoples and their identity values.

According to Granma newspaper, the meeting called for the elimination of all barriers to access in this field, by virtue of which it is important to integrate knowledge, ideas and experiences.
