Cuba and Vietnam hold bi-national inter-parliamentary session

Legislators from Cuba and Vietnam will begin the First Binational Interparliamentary Session today in Havana, the National Assembly of People’s Power (ANPP, parliament) of the Antillean nation reported.

The day before, representatives of the working committees of these bodies analysed the potential for bilateral cooperation in key areas for the development of both countries, and advocated to expand and strengthen it.

In a working meeting, led by the president of the ANPP, Esteban Lazo, and Nguyen Duc Hai, vice president of the National Assembly of the Asian country, the parliamentarians identified areas such as economic, financial and energy.

They also discussed assistance in health, sports, education, culture, science, agri-food, constitutional and legal matters, among others, according to the Cuban legislative body.

During the meeting, held in the Baraguá Hall of the National Capitol, the commissions addressed other issues such as the confrontation with the blockade imposed by the US government and the inclusion of the island on the list of states that allegedly sponsor terrorism.

At the beginning of the working meeting, Duc Hai expressed his satisfaction at visiting Cuba and having the opportunity to hold this exchange between the committees of both legislative bodies.

Previously, Esteban Lazo and the Vice President of the National Assembly of Vietnam toured the historic halls of the National Capitol.

During their stay in Cuba, Nguyen Duc Hai and his delegation will hold talks with officials of the National Assembly of People’s Power and the Council of State, including its president, Esteban Lazo.

They will also visit centres of economic, historical, scientific and cultural interest, and carry out other activities, the source said.
