Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, after his visit to Minsk where he participated in the XI Session of the Intergovernmental Commission with the Republic of Belarus, returned to Moscow to continue with the work programme established in the Russian Federation.

The beginning of the activities was marked by a tribute to Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz. In the Sokol district, at the foot of the statue of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Cabrisas, together with the delegation accompanying him, laid a wreath.

Later, at the headquarters of the Eurasian Economic Commission, the Cuban leader was received by Mr. Bakyzthan Sagintaev, President of the Eurasian Economic Council. The two men discussed Cuba’s participation in this integration mechanism as an Observer State.

A working meeting led by the Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Serguei Glaziev, was held. The meeting addressed the fundamental issues of this bloc’s ties with Cuba, focusing on the food sector, inter-business ties, technical regulations in trade and exchanges in the scientific-technical sphere.

According to the Cuban Deputy Prime Minister, relations between Cuba and the Eurasian Economic Commission are in a position to acquire a new dynamic.

Mr. Glaziev stressed that during the exchange, it became clear that there was a common approach to the challenges and prospects for promoting integration between Cuba and the Eurasian Economic Commission. He assured that direct relations would continue in order to work towards the fulfilment of the jointly proposed objectives.

Cabrisas concluded the meeting by highlighting the usefulness of the meeting and said that they are in a position to give a new dynamic to their work. He recalled the phrase of Cuba’s National Hero, José Martí, who said that «the best way to say is to do».

As part of the programme, the Deputy Prime Minister held an exchange with the Federal Military Technical Service, with the aim of following up on existing cooperation activities in this sector.

Afterwards, he met with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, with whom he had a friendly exchange in which they discussed important moments in bilateral relations in the past, the current state of relations between the two countries and the prospects for the future.

Lavrov affirmed that the Russian Foreign Ministry will continue to pay special attention to the fulfilment of the agreements reached between the Presidents of the Republic of Cuba and the Russian Federation.

The representatives of the Association of Friendship with Cuba expressed their unconditional support for the causes of the largest of the Antilles.

To conclude the day, the Cuban delegation took part in an activity at the Casa de América Latina.
