Obtaining biotechnological products is the daily motivation for the work of the Centro de Bioplantas de Ciego de Ávila, in order to contribute to food sovereignty in the province.
Amongst the tasks carried out by the Directorate of Scaling and Technological Transfer of the aforementioned institution are the multiplication of banana clones of regional interest and attention to the acclimatisation phase of pineapple production of different crops.
The multiplication of sugar cane varieties of interest to producers in the region is also being carried out, which represents a contribution to the recovery of the cultivation of an agro-industrial crop that identifies Cuba.
In the cultivation houses of the Centro de Bioplantas avileño, the study and monitoring of new productions of vanilla plants continues, which have medicinal properties confirmed in experiments, as a stimulant and to help strengthen the brain, and in stomach ailments or infectious processes.
In addition, care is being taken to obtain vegetable seedlings already agreed with local farmers for large-scale harvesting.
Another objective of the researchers is to obtain Jama flower seeds for the next planting season, as it is a natural fibre with various medical properties and is highly recommended for controlling high blood pressure.
