In order to ensure the continuity of Tarea Vida, 18 actions have been planned for this year in the Avileño municipality of Morón, involving specialists from the main scientific facilities in the territory, including the Doctor Benito Llanes Recino University Centre and the local Education and Housing directorates.
In the coastal community of Manatí, belonging to the People’s Council of Turiguanó, they are benefiting from a collaborative project that contributes to building technical and human capacities, under the advice of the Coastal Ecosystems Research Centre (Ciec) and the Iris Climate Foundation, with the aim of facing adverse scenarios in the medium and long term.
This is in addition to work to protect more than 15,000 hectares of mangrove forests, as a guarantee to preserve biodiversity in marine-coastal ecosystems and to protect against natural disasters, due to the capacity of these green spaces to lessen the impact of waves and strong winds.
Likewise, efforts are directed towards the protection of the Great Wetland of the North of Ciego de Avila, with international relevance guaranteed by the condition of Ramsar Site, therefore, the sustainable use of natural resources in that area is considered, where different economic and social activities are carried out, with the incidence of numerous organisms and institutions.
In the effort to safeguard this gigantic ecosystem, the work of the environmental education project Esperanza con Alas y Colores (Hope with Wings and Colours), deserving of the Territorial Environmental Recognition, awarded during the celebrations for World Environment Day, stands out.
Among the main goals are to continue with the change in the energy matrix due to the importance of preserving the environment and in the economic and social spheres, with the incentive represented by the implementation of a photovoltaic solar park with technology donated by the People’s Republic of China.
Demonstration of the will to progress is also the commitment of the workers of the Empresa de Fuentes Renovables de Energía RENSOL to develop a solar grain dryer, an innovation that would imply a considerable saving of electricity and would guarantee energy sovereignty to carry out this industrial process.
