The Communist Party of China (CPC) today reaffirmed its support for Cuba against the US blockade and the inclusion in the unilateral list of «state sponsors of terrorism».
Hu Zhaoming, spokesman and director general of the Information and Communication Bureau of the International Department of the CCP Central Committee, reaffirmed this position on his personal X account.
«We once again call on the United States to listen to the international community’s calls for justice, lift the blockade against Cuba, remove Cuba from the so-called ‘state sponsors of terrorism’ list and stop creating obstacles to the island’s economic and social development,» he said.
The official recalled that the blockade, imposed for more than 60 years, has caused severe hardship to the people of the Antillean nation and insisted that China consistently opposes these unilateral coercive measures.
Beijing has voted in favour of resolutions calling for an end to the blockade for 32 consecutive years in the UN General Assembly since 1992.
Earlier, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiankun criticised the new US administration’s decision to return Cuba to the list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism and questioned Washington’s international credibility.
«This practice shows that the unilateral lists and coercive mechanisms of the United States are arbitrary and that the repeated use of unfounded accusations against Cuba to impose unilateral sanctions is groundless, fully exposing the hegemonic, authoritarian and bullying face of the United States,» he stressed.
Guo urged Washington to lift the total blockade against the island as soon as possible and to effectively remove the Caribbean country from the terrorist list.
He also called on the United States to do more to benefit relations with Cuba and thus improve peace and stability in the Western Hemisphere.
US President Donald Trump reversed the order of his predecessor Joe Biden, who excluded Cuba from the unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
In his first administration (2017-2021), Trump applied a policy of maximum pressure towards the island, which he reinforced with 243 additional measures.
