Calls for more rigour in crime prevention and fight against crime in Avilanian entities

The recent exercise to prevent and confront crime, corruption, illegalities and social indiscipline taught us the need to systematise internal control measures in workplaces in the province of Ciego de Avila.

At the closing plenary session of the actions of the trade union movement, Roberto Pérez García, member of the Provincial Secretariat of the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba, informed that during the training, assemblies of affiliates, assets in companies, checking of the workers’ guard and the control of surveillance at night were carried out.

He mentioned among the irregularities the non-completion of the security agents’ staff, guards who sleep or leave their position on guard duty, the lack of lighting in workshops, warehouses, agro-markets, bakeries and in other centres, where in some of them criminal acts have occurred in recent times.

Other vulnerabilities were related to the non-existence of the incident log book and sentry boxes lacking the minimum conditions for the work of security and protection agents, who are paid low salaries and the responses to their complaints, by way of administrative sanctions, are delayed and lead to the exodus of this force in not a few establishments, although these dilemmas cannot constitute justifications for committing indiscipline.

It was concluded that the prevention and confrontation of criminal conduct requires more systematisation and rigour, taking into account that, in local subordinate entities alone, the damage to the economy exceeded 8 million 200 thousand pesos up to last October, due to acts of robbery, theft and embezzlement.
