Defeated Sint Maarten with a 2×1 score.
The Cuban team won the bronze medal at the VI Caribbean Baseball Cup after defeating St. Maarten 2×1 at the Andre Rogers Stadium in Nassau.
An unearned run by Santiago outfielder Francisco Martinez produced two runs in the third inning, which would ultimately prove decisive. Granma’s outfielder Darian Palma was a standout, batting 3-3.
Santiago starter Yosiel Serrano, the game winner, did well on the mound. The right-hander worked 4.1 innings, struck out four, gave up one walk, was hit by three hits and only had one walk at the plate.
He was relieved by fellow Granma right-hander Sammy Benítez, and Rafael Perdomo from the capital came to the rescue, got two outs in the ninth via a double play and closed out the game to earn the save.
Thus ends the regional tournament for the Cubans. At night, the US Virgin Islands and Curaçao will play for the gold medal (Author Giovanni Martínez, Bohemia’s special correspondent).
