The young avilanian Carlos Yoandrys Charles Santana, participates with the Cuban volleyball team in the League of Nations that began this May 21 in several cities around the world; in what is his first call with the elite squad.
Charles, 23, plays professional volleyball in Portugal with the Ala de Nun’Álvares de Gondomar club, where he has established himself as a future star of this sport in Cuba.
The native of Ciego de Avila, has made his debut in the Nations League by accompanying his team in the victories over Brazil (3-1) and Germany (3-1).
From his profile on the social network Facebook, the player expressed his gratitude for being part of this experience with the best volleyball players in the country.
One of the objectives of the Anillano team in this tournament is to reach the Olympic qualification that will be confirmed on June 24 when the world ranking will be published that will define the last five quotas of men’s volleyball for Paris 2024.
The website olympics.com points out that Cuba’s main rivals in the race for those quotas are Italy, Argentina, Slovenia and Serbia, but while the first three seem unreachable, the fight with Serbia is very close.
The Cubans will see action until 23 June in a total of 12 matches that complete the first phase of the tournament.
