Villanueva Theater Conference begins in Cuba

The Jornada Villanueva 2024 begins today in this capital and will run until January 28, dedicated to Cuban theater 155 years after the events of the Villanueva, said the National Council of Performing Arts.

The proposal has an extensive program of activities, which includes this Thursday the colloquium Theaters and Cuba, today, with the presentation of the documentary Lo que somos en los otros, directed by Gabriela Marina Hernandez, at Nave Oficio de Isla, in Old Havana.

As part of the event itself, attendees will be able to enjoy the panel Actors, characters and representations in contemporary Cuban stages.

Tomorrow is scheduled for tomorrow the discussion From empiricism to the academy, which will feature the participation of professors of the specialty of Clown, in Room 1 of the National Theater School, in the municipality of Centro Habana.

At the same venue, professors Aixa Prowl, Luis Carlos Pérez and Ernesto Parra will give an open class on Clown Technique and the documentary film Haciendo el camino, about the Clown School, will also be screened.

On January 22, 1869, the events of the Villanueva Theater took place, a bloody event perpetrated by Cubans in the service of the Spanish colonialist forces against the supporters of the independence of the Caribbean island, and years later that date was chosen as a theatrical event.
