Just hours before the start of the 42nd International Tourism Fair (FitCuba), in Jardines del Rey, one million foreign visitors have arrived in Cuba so far this year, a good omen for the destination, which aims to reach three million in 2024.
Juan Carlos García Granda, minister of the sector (Mintur), made the announcement at the end of this week in his official account on the X network, and ratified that Canada is consolidated as the first country of origin of tourists to the largest of the Antilles, followed by the Cuban community abroad, Russia, the United States, Germany, France, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Spain and Argentina, among others.
The infrastructure is designed to surpass the number of foreign visitors in the previous year, more than 2,436,980, and the Mintur proposes to increasingly improve the work to offer quality products and services in order to meet the expectations of customers, greater air connectivity and diversify the issuing markets.
Recently, in a working meeting, García Granda explained that for the Cuban community living abroad, the second largest issuing market and in constant growth, they offer packages in which the family is included for the enjoyment of the vacations, and there is serious work to recover markets that before the global pandemic of Covid-19, chose Cuba as a destination.
Between May 1 and 5, FitCuba 2024 will be held, the most important professional event of the smokeless industry in the country, this time dedicated to Latin America and the Caribbean and the participation of travel agents, hotel chains, airlines and commercial partners that promote Cuba as a safe destination for its natural, cultural and heritage values.
According to the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI), at the end of March, 809,238 foreign visitors arrived in Cuba, and the current goal is to surpass the three million mark.
