New Patriotic Acts for the Homeland in Tribute to Girón, Fidel’s Centenary and May Day Held in Ciego de Ávila
The signatures for the Homeland in tribute to the 65th anniversary of the victory at Playa Girón, the centenary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the forthcoming parade for May Day, International Workers’ Day, are demonstrating resounding acts of revolutionary reaffirmation in defence of peace in the central Cuban province of Ciego de Ávila.
More than 500 community work groups, integrated across all constituencies of the Avilanian territory, offered the people this Sunday the opportunity to express, through their signatures, their rejection of the alleged US military aggression against Cuba, Julio Gómez Casanova, First Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, posted on social media.
«At the same time, we send a strong message of rejection to the haters who, from Miami, incite hostility, with total disregard for life, without caring whether children, women, the elderly and many other Cubans die. Those who call for war do not care if the country is destroyed; they simply think about money and look down on us,» the leader stressed.
After signing her commitment, communicator Reina Torres Pérez declared, «Once again I have seen the working class and the people united because they feel what the Homeland means, because every day they respond to its call from the trenches of daily work.»
«We know the high value of peace, our supreme objective alongside unity; nothing and no one can threaten it,» emphasised Julio García Ruiseco, Avilanian correspondent for Radio Progreso.
«We defend the right to sovereignty of this beautiful land and the dreams of our children and grandchildren,» said Kenia Santilé Delgado, a manager at the Construction Materials Company.
«We, construction and hydraulic workers, are here to sign for life and the future,» expressed Yudenys Hidalgo López, who leads the Construction Workers’ Union, which achieved the best comprehensive performance in the province in 2025, and was therefore chosen to lead the first block of the trade union movement in the patriotic parade on the first day of next month.
The popular movement «My Signature for the Homeland», convened by Cuban civil society, is also becoming a driving force behind the acts of revolutionary reaffirmation in April to ensure the great victory of May in the squares of all the municipalities of Ciego de Ávila province, where the activities honouring workers on their day will continue this week with a programme of recognition for National Vanguard collectives, the awarding of decorations for exceptional work merits, gatherings at homes for children and young people without family support, voluntary work in food production areas and donations to health programmes, among other actions.
