Within alternative medicine, apitherapy is gaining more and more importance due to the diverse use of different bee honeycomb products with irrefutable therapeutic effects, knowledge put into practice today by clinics such as Apimedicina in Chile.

Enrique Allendes, beekeeper and creator of this initiative, told ACN that after years of working as a honey producer, he decided to broaden his knowledge at the Apiculture Research Centre in Cuba, where he gained experience to create this enterprise for the well-being of health 33 years ago.

He commented on the development of products derived from the beehive such as propolis extract, which works as an antiviral antibiotic, analgesic, immune system stimulant, helps to form tissues when there are wounds, and has fungicidal properties.

He explained the uses of pollen as an antioxidant, a natural medicine ideal for preventing prostatitis, a source of protein three times more than beef, and its intake provides mental alertness, as it increases blood flow to the brain, giving it more oxygen, and drone larvae as a source of testosterone, a male hormone.

He also mentioned the use of bee venom, a treatment for rheumatic pains, neuralgia and joint rheumatism, by means of stings caused by this insect.

Allendes detailed other services performed at ApiMedicina, such as the beehive vibration technique, where he lies his patients underneath the hive to relieve stress, as well as the extraction of air from the honeycomb using tubes that serve as an aerosol to calm asthma in children.

He highlighted honey, as a star product, for being a source of energy, used in cases of fatigue, anorexia, gastric ulcers, for its bactericidal and antibiotic properties very appropriate for infections such as laryngitis, bronchitis, healing power in wounds and skin conditions and also serves to give massages, exfoliate the skin, combat acne and dark spots.
