A National Workshop on the Maternal and Infant Care Programme is held in Ciego de Avila.

A National Workshop on the Maternal and Infant Care Programme (PAMI) was held at the Doctor Antonio Luaces Iraola Provincial Hospital in Ciego de Avila to examine the development of this important activity.

The event was chaired by Dr. Ailuj Casanova, National Director of Primary Health Care of MINSAP, with the participation of municipal health and hospital directors, doctors and nurses working in PAMI and government authorities and other institutions that are part of the intersectoral work.

This type of exchange is fruitful in order to generalise local experiences that can be applied in all territories and contribute to optimising the parameters of the mother and child programme.

Despite material shortcomings and objective limitations, in Cuba, priority is given to care for pregnant women from the time their pregnancy is detected until delivery and continues with the newborn throughout its development in order to keep maternal and infant mortality rates low.

During the workshop, the Provincial Directorate of Public Health of Ciego de Avila presented awards to a group of medical and paramedical professionals who are involved in the evaluation of pregnant women and infants to ensure that the PAMI indicators are improved every day.
