Professionals and workers from the Institute of Information and Social Communication and the Cuban radio and television media system added their signatures today to the «My Signature for the Homeland» movement.
In an event held at the iconic building at 23rd and M Streets, signature sheets were opened to collect, on behalf of everyone, the feelings of Cubans from different sectors of society in favour of peace, against war and against the blockade, which is currently being rolled out across the island.
Those present reaffirmed their commitment to the defence of the country’s sovereignty, as well as to reporting and keeping the population informed in any scenario, to combat the campaigns of manipulation and misrepresentation against the largest island in the Antilles.
Lia Hernández Pagés, a third-year Journalism student at the University of Havana, shared with the Cuban News Agency her main motivation for signing on this day: to preserve national sovereignty and the Homeland from any external aggression.
She pointed out that beyond any internal political disagreements or differences in Cuba, the most important thing is to keep in mind the principles being defended, which are none other than the nation’s independence in the face of foreign intervention.
She added that this path of aggression will not solve the country’s problems; on the contrary, it will aggravate them; they can only be resolved among Cubans.
As young people, we must have that drive to change what needs to be changed, but without forgetting our principles or allowing these changes to be driven by external pressure, she added.
