Triple tie at the top of the 64th National Baseball Series

After six games, the summit is shared by Sancti Spíritus, Matanzas and Santiago de Cuba

The victories of the Sancti Spíritus Roosters and the Matanzas Crocodiles, combined with the setback of the Santiago de Cuba Wasps, led to a triple tie at the top of the 64th National Baseball Series this Tuesday.

Roosters, Crocodiles and Wasps now exhibit a 5-1 balance.

At their José Antonio Huelga stadium, the espirituanos defeated the Ciego de Ávila Tigers 4×2, supported by a solid mound job from José Isaías Grandales, who in 7.0 innings barely admitted five hits and served up eight strikeouts. Second save for Yankiel Mauri, who threw a pair of immaculate episodes. Kevin Soto lost.

Also in the host role, the yumurino crocodiles dealt a 14×4 KO to the Villa Clara Leopards, with an offence of 13 unstoppable hits and a standout performance for the infielder Esteban Terry, who went 5-4, with a double and three runs batted in to the plate.

Second victory for the talented Silvio Iturralde, who achieved effective relief of 4.2 episodes with just one hit allowed. Villa Clara committed three ivory errors on defence.

The indomitable wasps, in their Guillermón Moncada stronghold, were “thrashed” by the pinareño vegueros with a super KO (0x22), the 70th that national baseball archives. And furthermore, they lost their unbeaten record.

The vueltabajeros, who manufactured a cluster of nine runs in the fourth act, dispatched 13 unstoppable hits, including home runs from Alexei Ramírez -third of the tournament- and the fifth from William Saavedra, the leader.

Both drove in three runs. Victory for the left-handed Gabriel Cantero and a setback to the record of Wilber Reyna.

In other results, the reigning champion Las Tunas disposed of the Isla de la Juventud 10×2, with a home run and five runs batted in from the infielder Henry Quintero, Granma overcame Camagüey 9×1 and Holguín beat Guantánamo 7×6.

The Industriales-Mayabeque and Artemisa-Cienfuegos games were sealed by rain.
