Year 2022: a rebirth for the avilanian culture (+Photos)

The year 2022 ended with a positive balance in favor of culture in Ciego de Ávila, a fact that is evidenced both in the rescue of art-related facilities and in the return of highly popular events.

After the long period of recess imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, when practically all actions were limited to participation through social networks, 2022 welcomed a hopeful constructive program to rescue facilities and bring them back to useful life or improve conditions, for the sake of offering a superior service to the population.

The amount of the project exceeded six million pesos and covered cultural institutions in Ciego de Ávila and Morón, such as cinemas, theaters, the headquarters of the Hermanos Saiz Association and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba.

Among the most important works are those carried out in the Principal Theater, an emblematic architectural jewel of the capital city, the Nicaragua cinema project and the Abdala theater.

Although some of these works will have their definitive conclusion in 2023, there is no doubt that the impulse received leaves the works ready for a better performance.

Also in terms of programming, the public could once again enjoy events such as the Book Fair, the Piña Colada festival, the Jazz Centro, Al Son del Gallo and Trovándote, in addition to Títeres al Centro, art salons and the crusade of the artists of the Hermanos Saiz Association, Por los caminos de la trocha (On the roads of the trail).

The popular tradition was reborn throughout the year, with the celebration of popular festivals, such as the August 1st in Baraguá, with Caribbean roots, the parrandas of Chambas and Punta Alegre, the aquatic festival of Morón and the Red and Blue teams of Majagua.

Despite the severe restrictions imposed by the economic crisis, culture was among the priorities of the political and governmental organizations of the territory, determined not only to improve their facilities, but also to bring its various manifestations to the most remote communities.

What has been done, like a tree reborn, will need to be carefully fertilized to make it bear fruit in this 2023 that is just beginning.
