The recovery of pineapple production, the flagship crop of the province of Ciego de Avila, is the endeavour of many agro-scientists and harvesters in the territory.
In the Unidad Empresarial de Base (UEB) Frutales Sur, a successful start can be seen in the new planted areas, and in the fertile lands of the producer Ignacio Inciarte, very good quality can be seen in the pineapple plantations of the Cabezona and Española red varieties.

Other state and private areas of the province of Avila are dedicated to the cultivation of the so-called Queen of Fruits, a genuine delicacy of this central part of the country.
Researchers from the prestigious agro-science institution, the Centro de Bioplantas avileño, are working on the genetic improvement of various varieties of pineapple, to make each fruit juicier and sweeter.
The pineapple from Avila is well accepted on the world market, which is why its exportation produces a monetary increase for the country, so necessary to improve the Cuban economy.
Moreover, the population is demanding a greater presence of pineapple in the national market, to recover the tradition of consuming a delicious fruit with high nutritional values.
