Artists from Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Cuba will be present at Circuba International 2024, to be held from the 15th to the 18th of this month in the Sala Avellaneda of the National Theatre, which today prepares to host the event.
The organisers decided to change their usual Havana venue from the Carpa Trompoloco to one of the spaces of the National Theatre in order to provide better access to a larger number of people.
This was stated by the director of the National Circus of Cuba, Milagros Luis Alonso, who explained that the proximity, capacity and comfort of the audience were taken into account.
Juggling, aerial gymnastics, acts of impelled balance, contortions, clowning, magic, among others, will be part of this edition, which will not have a competitive nature, she told the press.
The world circus personalities who usually participate as jurors are not available for that date, he explained.
However, there will be beautiful shows combining the talent of Cuban artists with that of foreigners from Mexico, Colombia and Chile, he said.
The Cuban company Cirkavana, directed by Clary Fernández, will bring acts of acrobatics on a trampoline, a complex show that has not been presented for some years.
According to the organisers, one of the strengths of this year’s event is the participation of many young artists.
Circuba International was first held in 1981 and is considered the oldest event of its kind in the Americas and the third oldest in the world.
