Venezuela today categorically, firmly and absolutely rejected what it called a new and ridiculous fabrication by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who designates the non-existent Cartel of the Suns as a terrorist organisation.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs stated in a communiqué that with this step they are thus reissuing «an infamous and vile lie to justify an illegitimate and illegal intervention against Venezuela, under the classic US format of regime change.»

It underscored that this new manoeuvre «will follow the fate of the previous and recurrent aggressions against our country: failure.»

The official note highlighted that it is foolish for the Venezuelan government to waste part of its valuable governing time having to respond to these infamies and calumnies.

«Fortunately the Venezuelan people are more united and cohesive than ever, attending to national life in all its dimensions and embarking on the Christmas festivities,» it expressed.

The text urged the US government to «rectify this erratic policy of aggressions and threats,» resoundingly rejected by the US people themselves, which affect the development of the Caribbean peoples and in no way contribute to a true and genuine fight against illicit drug trafficking.

Once again our people, in perfect popular, police and military union, will know how to safeguard the peace and the highest interests of our Republic, it assured.

«And with the Liberator Simón Bolívar we say in a loud voice: Peace will be my port, my glory, my reward, my hope, my happiness and all that is precious to me in this world,» it concluded.
