Venezuela Condemns Selective Use of International Law

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil today condemned the selective use of International Law as a weapon against the Global South during his address at the Special Emergency Ministerial Meeting in Defense of Palestine, held in Bogotá.

The meeting, convened by Colombian President Gustavo Petro and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa under the Hague Group framework, took place yesterday to urgently coordinate responses to ongoing atrocities against the Palestinian people.

Gil demanded «the immediate end of the Zionist occupation, the abolition of apartheid, and historical reparations for Palestine.»

On Telegram, the Foreign Minister specified that he conveyed President Nicolás Maduro’s message condemning Israel’s genocide against Palestinians, which began in 1948 with the Zionist occupation and «intensifies today with Western powers’ backing.»

He stressed that every attack on Gaza «not only destroys lives but undermines International Law principles,» while international courts display «slowness or complacency toward Western interests.»

Gil recalled Maduro’s proposal to convene a «World Summit for Peace and Against War to halt the Israeli regime and demand real justice.»

He reaffirmed Palestine’s right «to exist, resist, and live freely as a fully sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions.»

Venezuela maintains that «there will be no just solution without immediately ending the occupation and apartheid regime,» Gil emphasised.

He also expressed support for UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, who «faces attacks for defending Palestine’s truth to safeguard humanity.»

While in Bogotá, Gil met with Palestinian UN Ambassador Riyad Mansour and Palestinian Ambassador to Colombia Raouf Almalki, conveying the Bolivarian Government’s and President Maduro’s message of solidarity and unconditional support.

In letters to counterparts Petro and Ramaphosa, Maduro stated the summit represented «an indispensable moral and political response at a time when all humanity is confronted by horror and impunity.»

The leader described Israel’s genocide against Palestinians as «the greatest crime of contemporary history,» asserting that this summit «should structure a proposal for just, effective, lasting peace – born from the people, not the elites profiting from war.»

«The Palestinian cause is neither regional nor religious; it is the line separating justice from barbarity and the moral battle of our time,» he declared.
