Those men and women who defy the intense sun of Cuba and dye their clothing with the color of the earth, as well as those who give birth and grow to the animals destined for food consumption in the nation, deserve a special congratulation today on Agricultural Workers’ Day.
In the province of Ciego de Ávila, due to its fertile lands, thousands of citizens are dedicated to the tasks of agriculture and livestock, who today will have the well-deserved tribute for what their work affects life and social development.
Although these are difficult times on the island and agricultural activity has been depressed due to the lack of resources imposed by the Blockade, state and private producers are making efforts in the various tasks that make up this sector to produce more with less.
The harvests of food, fruits, grains, vegetables and the contribution of meat and eggs are the reason for the daily lives of those who are surprised by each sunrise in the furrows, the dairy farms, the farms and each production center.
Currently, this sector seeks technological contributions to achieve better crops and natural products that function as fertilizers, pesticides, feed… which industrially have very high costs in the world market.
The battle that these workers fight is to produce more to offer greater food options to the population and to be able to lower the high prices that accompany each product today.
It is said that «Agriculture is the art that teaches virtue to man», so the virtuous people who make up its workforce today have the recognition of society and the confidence that their daily work will bring the expected and very necessary results.
