The Provincial Traffic Directorate in Ciego de Ávila is carrying out a series of operations aimed at combating the main causes of accidents in the territory.

Among the most detected breaches of discipline on public roads are driving without the proper licence, the use of music at high volume and failure to use protective equipment such as helmets.

Major Alexander Sánchez González, of the Provincial Traffic Directorate, reported that in addition to the corresponding fines, vehicles are being retained in cases of repeat offenders.

The measure seeks to reinforce the deterrent character of control actions and curb the behaviours that most contribute to traffic accidents.

The actions, which are carried out systematically on the province’s main road corridors, respond to the diagnosis made by the authorities of the factors that contribute to accidents. According to the body, these irresponsible behaviours not only constitute breaches of current regulations, but also considerably increase the risk of serious injury and loss of life.

In this context, the operations are not limited to sanctions, but also include road safety education actions in communities, workplaces and schools, where traffic specialists explain the consequences of non-compliance with the rules and promote responsible behaviour from an early age.

The preventive work is complemented by direct exchanges with drivers and family members, with the aim of raising awareness of the value of life and the importance of respecting signage and current regulations.

Sánchez González explained that the operations combine roadside controls with road safety education work, with the aim of reinforcing the perception of risk and promoting a culture of responsibility among drivers, passengers and pedestrians.

He also called on the population to cooperate with the authorities and to report reckless behaviour that endangers everyone’s safety.

The authorities reiterated that compliance with the rules — carrying a driving licence, avoiding the use of music at a volume that affects attention at the wheel and using a helmet on motorcycles and mopeds — is a civic obligation and a direct way to preserve life.

The Provincial Traffic Directorate in Ciego de Ávila reaffirmed its commitment to maintain and intensify these actions throughout the year, with special emphasis on the times and stretches with the highest incidence, and urged the population to adopt responsible behaviour on public roads.
