Total Lunar Eclipse Announced for Tuesday 3rd March

The Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy (IGA) confirmed in this capital that in the early morning of Tuesday 3rd March a total lunar eclipse will occur, visible from all points of Cuba.

But it will only be observed until reaching the moment of maximum obscuration and not its final phases, due to the fact that a few minutes later the moonset will occur, its specialists reported to the Cuban News Agency.

They added that its behaviour data will be as follows: beginning of the penumbral eclipse 03h 42.8m, entry of the Moon into Earth’s shadow 04h 49.7m, beginning of the total eclipse 06h 03.9m, its maximum will be at 06h 33.6m and moonset will occur at 06h 51m.

They identified the fact that its umbral duration will be 2h 01.8min and its totality 0h 47.6m, all times in the time of the 75 degrees West of Greenwich meridian, official time of the Republic of Cuba.

The IGA emerged on 17th April 1964 and is the only one of its kind in the country for studies in the field of geophysics, astronomy, environmental geology and disaster risk assessment, and maintains basic and applied research, aimed at the analysis of the ionosphere, the magnetosphere and their interrelationships, the geo-effectiveness of solar activity and influence on the propagation of electromagnetic waves and other spheres.

It is one of the collectives of the Environment Agency, one of the three of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment.

The others are the Nuclear Energy and Advanced Technologies Agency and the Social and Humanistic Sciences Agency.
